Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Pentax K-x is a compact and capable APS-C digital SLR introduced in 2009. With a 12.4-megapixel CMOS sensor, in-body Shake Reduction, and fast continuous shooting, it offered impressive performance for an entry-level camera. It is paired here with the smc PENTAX-DA 18-55mm AL standard zoom for a complete, ready-to-use outfit.

The K-x was widely praised for its image quality, especially its clean results at high ISO settings, which were excellent for its class. Pentax's color rendering is natural and pleasing, and RAW shooting gives you room to refine your images in editing.

One of the K-x's biggest advantages is in-body Shake Reduction, which stabilizes every lens mounted on the camera, including vintage manual-focus Pentax lenses. This makes it an excellent body for exploring the huge range of older K-mount glass.

The camera shoots at up to approximately 4.7 frames per second, records 720p HD video, and runs on widely available AA batteries, a practical advantage when traveling. Its compact, lightweight body is comfortable to carry all day.

The smc PENTAX-DA 18-55mm AL is a versatile standard zoom covering wide angle to short telephoto, equivalent to about 27.5-84.5mm. It focuses as close as 0.25 m and benefits from Pentax's SMC coating for good contrast and color, making it ideal for landscapes, travel, family, and everyday photography.

The K-x is compatible with most Pentax K-mount lenses, from modern DA and FA autofocus lenses to classic K, M, and A-series manual lenses. With Shake Reduction built into the body, even decades-old lenses benefit from stabilization.

Today, the K-x remains popular as an affordable and enjoyable entry point into digital photography and the Pentax system. Its combination of good image quality, in-body stabilization, and broad lens compatibility is still very appealing.

If you want a compact, capable digital SLR outfit with in-body stabilization and access to decades of Pentax lenses, the Pentax K-x with smc PENTAX-DA 18-55mm AL is an excellent choice.
