The Pentax Super-Takumar 28mm f/3.5 is a classic M42 wide-angle lens from Asahi Optical's golden era. Super-Takumar lenses are famous for their superb build quality and distinctive rendering, and this 28mm offers a practical wide view in a compact, beautifully made all-metal barrel.

Its 7-element optical design produces sharp, well-controlled images with good contrast, especially when stopped down to the middle apertures. Distortion is well managed for a wide angle of this era, and the lens renders colors with the warm, natural character that Takumar glass is known for.

The build is outstanding. The focusing ring turns with the silky smoothness for which Takumars are legendary, and the aperture ring has positive click stops. The Auto/Manual switch allows stop-down metering on cameras such as the Spotmatic and makes adapting the lens simple.

A 75-degree angle of view makes it easy to capture wide landscapes, interiors, and street scenes. The modest f/3.5 aperture keeps the lens small and light, and its generous depth of field is well suited to zone focusing.

This lens is ideal for landscape, architecture, travel, and street photography. Set to a middle aperture and pre-focused, it becomes a fast, responsive tool for candid shooting in busy streets.

As an M42 lens, it mounts directly on Pentax Spotmatic and other screw-mount SLRs, and on Pentax K-mount bodies with the official adapter. With a simple M42 adapter it works on Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Micro Four Thirds; set the switch to Manual to control the aperture directly.

Super-Takumars remain some of the most beloved vintage lenses because they combine craftsmanship, compactness, and a pleasing, classic look. A good 28mm is an essential part of any Takumar kit.

If you want a compact, characterful wide-angle lens with legendary Takumar build quality, the Super-Takumar 28mm f/3.5 is an excellent addition for both film and mirrorless photographers.
