The Tamron AF XR 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Aspherical (IF) Macro is a compact all-in-one zoom lens that covers wide-angle to telephoto in a single, convenient package. Tamron's use of XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass allowed this lens to be made notably smaller and lighter than earlier superzooms of similar range.

Optically, the lens incorporates aspherical elements and XR glass to control aberrations and maintain good image quality across the zoom range. Images are bright and colourful, making it a capable everyday and travel lens.

The 28–200mm range covers landscapes and group shots at the wide end and portraits and distant subjects at the telephoto end. Being able to cover so many situations without changing lenses makes it ideal for travel and family photography.

The lens focuses down to 0.49 m throughout the zoom range, achieving a maximum magnification of 1:3.6 at 200mm. This macro capability is great for flowers, food and small details. Internal focusing means the front element does not rotate, which is convenient when using polarising filters.

The lens is compatible with Canon EOS film and digital SLRs. On full-frame cameras it covers a true 28–200mm range, while on APS-C bodies it provides approximately 45–320mm equivalent reach for even greater telephoto capability.

It can also be used on Canon EOS R mirrorless cameras via the EF-EOS R adapter, maintaining autofocus and electronic aperture control.

Its combination of versatility, compact size and close-focus ability has made this Tamron superzoom a long-standing favourite for photographers who prefer to travel light.

If you are looking for a single lens that handles almost everything, from wide scenes to telephoto and close-ups, the Tamron AF XR 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Macro is an excellent choice for your Canon camera.
