Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Nikon D70 is one of the most influential digital SLRs of its era. Introduced in 2004, it brought advanced features to an accessible price point and helped introduce countless photographers to digital SLR photography. Its 6.1-megapixel DX-format CCD sensor remains appreciated today for its distinctive color rendering.

Many photographers seek out CCD-sensor cameras like the D70 for their rich, film-like color and contrast. Images have a characterful look that differs noticeably from modern CMOS sensors, making the D70 a popular choice for creative and nostalgic digital photography.

The D70 offers a remarkably high flash sync speed of up to 1/500 sec, thanks to its electronic shutter design. This makes it particularly useful for outdoor fill flash and creative flash photography in bright light.

Its 5-area autofocus system, 3D Color Matrix metering, and top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec deliver capable, reliable performance. Full program, shutter-priority, aperture-priority, and manual modes give complete control, while Digital Vari-Program modes make it easy for beginners.

The D70 is ideal for everyday photography, portraits, travel, and anyone wanting to explore the look of early digital cameras. Its solid feel and logical controls make it enjoyable to use.

The camera works with a wide range of Nikon F-mount lenses, including AF, AF-D, AF-S, and G-type Nikkors with full autofocus. Manual-focus Ai lenses can be mounted and used in manual exposure mode without metering.

Older CCD DSLRs have developed a strong following for their unique image character and affordability, and the D70 is one of the most popular and historically significant examples.

If you want a classic Nikon digital SLR with a distinctive CCD look and broad lens compatibility, the Nikon D70 is a rewarding and accessible choice.
