The Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 is one of Nikon's early autofocus zoom lenses, introduced in the first generation of AF Nikkors. It covers a highly practical range from moderate wide angle to short telephoto, making it a capable everyday lens for both film and digital Nikon SLRs.

Optically it is built around a sophisticated 16-element, 12-group design, and it delivers solid sharpness and good contrast throughout its range. Nikon's coating helps maintain clean colors and controlled flare, and the lens produces the dependable, natural rendering expected from Nikkor glass of this era.

Construction reflects Nikon's 1980s standards, with a metal mount and a sturdy feel that many modern consumer zooms lack. It retains a traditional aperture ring, which allows it to be used on older manual exposure bodies and gives you direct aperture control when adapting to other systems.

A useful macro setting expands its versatility for close-up subjects such as flowers, food, and small objects. Combined with the 35-105mm range, it allows one lens to handle scenery, people, and details without changing lenses.

This lens is well suited to travel, street, family, and general photography. At 35mm it captures environments and groups; at 105mm it becomes a classic portrait focal length with pleasing compression and background separation.

The lens autofocuses on Nikon bodies with a built-in AF motor, such as the F-801, F90, F100, D7000-series, D200, D300, and full-frame bodies like the D700 and D750. On entry-level bodies without a motor it can still be used in manual focus. It also adapts well to mirrorless cameras with a Nikon F adapter, where the aperture ring makes operation simple.

Photographers continue to value lenses like this for their solid build, classic Nikkor rendering, and excellent value. It offers a versatile focal range and a useful macro feature in a reliable package from Nikon's golden era of film SLRs.

For anyone building a Nikon film kit or looking for an affordable, well-built standard zoom with a bit of extra reach, the AF Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 is an excellent and practical choice.
