The Nikon Series E Zoom 75-150mm f/3.5 is a manual-focus telephoto zoom with a cult following. Although it was part of Nikon's budget-oriented Series E line, it has become famous for its excellent optical performance, often compared favorably with more expensive lenses of its time.

A key feature is its constant f/3.5 maximum aperture across the zoom range, which is unusually bright for a telephoto zoom of this era. This allows consistent exposure while zooming and better low-light performance and background separation.

The 75-150mm range is ideal for portraiture, covering classic portrait focal lengths such as 85mm, 105mm, and 135mm in one lens. It is also excellent for candid street shots, events, and details in landscapes and architecture.

Optically, the lens delivers sharp, contrasty images with pleasing, smooth bokeh. Its 12-element, 9-group design was well corrected for its time, and many photographers still use it today on both film and digital cameras.

The one-touch push-pull design allows fast zooming and focusing with a single ring, which is quick and intuitive in practice. Its 52 mm filter thread matches many other classic Nikon lenses.

As an Ai-s lens, it works with a wide range of Nikon film SLRs, and with many Nikon DSLRs, metering is supported depending on the model. With an inexpensive Nikon F adapter, it is easy to use on mirrorless cameras such as Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Micro Four Thirds.

Its excellent image quality, compact size, and accessible price make the Series E 75-150mm one of the best values among vintage telephoto zooms.

If you are looking for a characterful and capable portrait zoom for film or digital photography, the Nikon Series E Zoom 75-150mm f/3.5 is a classic worth owning.
