The Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F is the final and most refined camera in Pentax's famous Spotmatic family. Introduced in 1973, it added open-aperture metering with SMC and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar lenses, making exposure measurement quicker and more convenient than on earlier stop-down Spotmatic models.

The Spotmatic series is one of the most iconic SLR lines of all time, and the Spotmatic F brings together everything that made it special: a compact, elegant body, a smooth and reliable mechanical shutter, and a clear, simple match-needle metering system.

Build quality is outstanding. The all-metal body feels solid and balanced, the film advance is smooth, and the controls are intuitive. The mechanical shutter runs from 1 second to 1/1000 sec plus Bulb, and the battery is needed only for the light meter.

With compatible SMC Takumar lenses, metering is performed at full aperture, so the viewfinder stays bright while you focus and set exposure. With older Takumar or third-party M42 lenses, the camera can still be used with stop-down metering.

This camera is ideal for street, travel, portrait, and landscape photography. It is also a wonderful camera for learning photography, as its manual controls make the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and light easy to understand.

The Spotmatic F uses the universal M42 screw mount, opening up a vast selection of lenses, from Pentax's own legendary Takumars to lenses by many other makers. This makes it easy and affordable to build a full system.

Collectors and photographers alike value the Spotmatic F for its classic design, robust mechanics, and the beautiful rendering of the Takumar lenses that pair with it. It remains one of the most rewarding mechanical SLRs to use today.

If you are looking for a classic, compact, and dependable 35mm SLR with timeless style, the Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F is an excellent choice for film photographers of every level.
