The Canon EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 is a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens for the Canon EOS autofocus system. Commonly supplied as a kit lens with EOS film cameras, it provides a convenient range from moderate wide-angle to short telephoto in a pocket-friendly design.

The 35mm end is a classic focal length for street photography, travel, and everyday snapshots, while 80mm provides a flattering perspective for portraits. Having both in a single small lens makes it easy to capture a wide variety of subjects without carrying extra gear.

Because it is a full-frame EF lens, it works with every Canon EOS SLR, including film models and digital bodies. On APS-C digital cameras it becomes an approximately 56-128mm equivalent short telephoto zoom, useful for portraits and details.

The lens is extremely light, making it a great match for compact EOS film cameras. The combination is easy to carry on trips and casual outings, encouraging you to bring your camera everywhere.

Autofocus is driven by a built-in micro motor, and manual focus is available via the AF/MF switch. The 52 mm filter thread allows the use of small, inexpensive filters such as UV protectors and polarizers.

Image quality is clean and pleasant, particularly when stopped down to the middle apertures. On film, it produces the kind of natural, honest results that make it an ideal everyday lens for snapshots and travel photography.

It can also be used on Canon EOS R series mirrorless cameras with the EF-EOS R mount adapter, maintaining autofocus and electronic aperture control.

If you want an affordable and lightweight standard zoom to complete a Canon EOS film kit or to use as a casual everyday lens, the EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 is a simple and practical choice.
