Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Nikon D60 is a compact and user-friendly digital SLR that combines a 10.2-megapixel DX-format CCD sensor with Nikon's EXPEED image processing. Introduced in 2008, it was designed to make high-quality photography accessible and enjoyable for everyone. This kit includes the AF-S DX 18-55mm VR lens, providing stabilized everyday coverage.

The CCD sensor produces images with rich, natural color and fine detail, a look that many photographers appreciate from Nikon's CCD-era cameras. Nikon's 3D Color Matrix Metering II with a 420-segment sensor delivers reliable exposures across a wide variety of scenes. EXPEED processing and Active D-Lighting help preserve detail in highlights and shadows.

The D60 includes an Airflow Control System and image sensor cleaning to help reduce dust on the sensor. Its 2.5-inch LCD clearly displays shooting information and images, and an eye sensor automatically switches the display off when you raise the camera to your eye. Continuous shooting at about 3 frames per second captures everyday action well.

The body is compact and lightweight at around 495g, making it comfortable to carry for travel and daily use. Scene modes help beginners get great results quickly, while Program, Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority and Manual modes allow full creative control. In-camera retouch functions let you edit images without a computer.

The included AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens covers a range equivalent to about 27–82.5mm, ideal for landscapes, family photos, travel and portraits. Vibration Reduction provides approximately three stops of stabilization, helping you take sharp handheld photos in lower light. The lens focuses as close as 0.28m for close-up detail shots.

The D60 uses the Nikon F mount and autofocuses with AF-S and AF-I lenses that have built-in focus motors, such as AF-S DX and AF-S FX lenses. Older AF and AF-D lenses can be mounted but will focus manually because the D60 has no built-in focus motor. This still leaves a wide choice of compatible autofocus lenses.

The D60 remains a great choice for anyone seeking a simple, reliable digital SLR with Nikon's classic CCD image quality. Its compact size, straightforward controls and stabilized kit lens make it an approachable camera for beginners. It also works well as a lightweight second body.

If you are looking for an easy-to-use, compact digital SLR kit with a stabilized zoom lens, the Nikon D60 with the AF-S DX 18-55mm VR lens is an excellent choice. It offers dependable performance and pleasing image quality for travel, family and everyday photography. It is a complete package ready to go.
