The Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM is a well-built telephoto zoom lens from the early EOS era. Equipped with a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor, it offers fast, quiet autofocus and full-time manual focus, features that set it apart from many budget telephoto zooms.

The 100-300mm range is ideal for portraits, sports, wildlife, airshows, and events. On APS-C digital bodies, it becomes an approximately 160-480mm equivalent, providing impressive reach for distant subjects.

The ring-type USM allows you to adjust focus manually at any time without switching modes, which is useful for fine-tuning focus on wildlife or through foliage. Autofocus is quick and nearly silent, ideal for discreet shooting.

Optically, the 13-element, 10-group design delivers good sharpness and contrast, especially when stopped down slightly, with Canon's natural color rendering. Eight aperture blades help produce smooth, attractive background blur.

The lens is relatively compact for its range, at about 540 g, and uses a common 58 mm filter thread. It balances well on both EOS film cameras and digital bodies.

It works on every Canon EOS SLR, film or digital, and on Canon EOS R series mirrorless cameras via the EF-EOS R mount adapter with full autofocus and electronic communication.

Many photographers appreciate this lens as an affordable way to get USM performance and telephoto reach without moving up to professional L-series pricing.

If you need a capable, quick-focusing telephoto zoom for your Canon EOS camera, the EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM is a solid and economical choice.
