Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Nikon FE10 is a lightweight 35mm manual-focus SLR introduced in 1996, designed to offer an accessible way to enjoy Nikon film photography. It provides both aperture-priority automatic exposure and full manual control, making it suitable for beginners and experienced photographers alike. This kit includes the Zoom-NIKKOR 35-70mm f/3.5-4.8 lens, creating a complete, ready-to-shoot film setup.

In aperture-priority mode, you choose the aperture and the camera automatically selects a stepless shutter speed from 8 seconds to 1/2000 second. Manual mode gives complete control over exposure, with shutter speeds from 1 second to 1/2000 second plus Bulb. This combination makes the FE10 an excellent camera for learning how exposure works.

The FE10 uses center-weighted metering for dependable, predictable exposures, and its viewfinder clearly shows the information needed for quick decisions. The body is compact and light, making it comfortable for travel and long days of shooting. It runs on commonly available LR44 or SR44 batteries.

The camera uses the Nikon F mount, accepting a wide range of Ai, Ai-s and AI-P manual-focus Nikkor lenses, as well as AF and AF-D lenses with an aperture ring used in manual focus. This gives access to a huge selection of affordable, high-quality lenses. G-type lenses without an aperture ring are not suitable for full control on this camera.

The included Zoom-NIKKOR 35-70mm f/3.5-4.8 is a compact manual-focus standard zoom that covers a moderate wide angle to a short portrait focal length. It is well suited for travel, street photography, family photos and everyday documentation. Its 52mm filter size is common and economical.

Together, the FE10 and 35-70mm lens make an easy, versatile kit for exploring film photography. The zoom range lets you frame scenes without changing position, while manual focusing encourages a thoughtful approach to each shot. It is a pleasant combination for both learning and creative work.

Manual-focus film SLRs like the FE10 remain popular with new film photographers because they offer genuine control at an accessible level. Its automatic exposure mode helps when you need to work quickly, while manual mode supports creative experimentation. Its compatibility with Nikon's vast lens system adds long-term value.

If you are looking for a lightweight, easy-to-use Nikon film SLR kit with automatic and manual exposure options, the Nikon FE10 with the Zoom-NIKKOR 35-70mm f/3.5-4.8 is an excellent choice. It offers a versatile lens, dependable metering and access to a wide range of Nikkor optics. It is a great kit to begin or continue your film journey.
