The Carl Zeiss Mutar II 2x is a teleconverter designed for the Contax/Yashica (C/Y) mount system, produced as part of the Contax lens lineup that brought Carl Zeiss optics to Japanese-made SLRs. Mounted between the camera and lens, it doubles the focal length of the attached lens.

As a Carl Zeiss optic with T* multi-coating, the Mutar II is designed to maintain contrast and clarity while extending your reach. T* coating is famous for reducing flare and preserving rich color, qualities that are especially important when adding optical elements to a lens system.

Construction reflects the high standards of the Contax system, with a solid, precise metal build and a secure C/Y bayonet mount. It is compact enough to carry easily, giving you a second focal length without adding another full lens to your bag.

Using a 2x converter turns a 135mm lens into a 270mm, or a 200mm into a 400mm, while reducing the effective maximum aperture by two stops. This makes it an economical way to extend a Contax kit for distant subjects.

The Mutar II is useful for wildlife, sports, distant landscape details, and close-up work where extra working distance is helpful. It is best paired with high-quality Carl Zeiss primes, where the converter can take advantage of their excellent optical performance.

The converter fits Contax and Yashica C/Y-mount cameras such as the Contax RTS series, 139 Quartz, 167MT, and Aria. With a C/Y adapter, a C/Y lens and Mutar combination can also be used on mirrorless cameras such as Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Micro Four Thirds.

Carl Zeiss C/Y accessories are valued by enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate the Contax system's outstanding optics and build quality. A genuine Zeiss teleconverter is an important part of a complete Contax kit.

If you want to extend the reach of your Contax/Yashica lenses while staying within the Carl Zeiss system, the Mutar II 2x teleconverter is an excellent and practical choice.
