The Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED is one of Nikon's most respected DX standard zooms. Originally introduced as the kit lens for the Nikon D70, it quickly earned a reputation for image quality and build well above typical kit lenses.

Its optical design incorporates an ED element and an aspherical element, producing sharp, contrasty images with good control of chromatic aberration. The slightly faster aperture than many kit zooms is a welcome advantage in lower light.

Build quality is a highlight, with a solid barrel, metal mount, and smooth, well-damped zoom and focus rings. Internal focusing means the front element does not rotate, which is convenient with polarizing filters.

The Silent Wave Motor delivers fast, quiet autofocus, with instant manual override by simply turning the focus ring. AF works on all Nikon DX DSLRs, including entry-level bodies without a built-in focus motor.

Its 27-105mm equivalent range is extremely practical, covering landscapes, architecture, events, travel and portraits. It is a lens you can leave on the camera for most everyday situations.

The lens is compatible with Nikon DX DSLRs and can be used on FX bodies in DX crop mode. With the FTZ adapter, it also works on Nikon Z mirrorless cameras with autofocus.

Today the 18-70mm remains valued as a high-quality, affordable DX zoom that offers a wider range and better build than many standard kit lenses.

We recommend it to Nikon DX shooters seeking a dependable, sharp everyday zoom with professional-feeling handling.
