The Nikon Micro-Nikkor-P.C Auto 55mm f/3.5 is a classic manual-focus macro lens that earned a reputation as one of the sharpest Nikkor lenses of its time. Nikon uses the name Micro for its close-up lenses, and this 55mm was widely used for scientific, copy, and nature photography.

Optically, the lens is famous for its exceptional sharpness and flat field, making it ideal for reproducing documents, artwork, and small objects with accuracy across the frame. The C in its name indicates multi-coating, which improves contrast and reduces flare.

The lens reaches 1:2 magnification on its own, and life-size 1:1 reproduction with the matching extension ring. Its deeply recessed front element acts as a built-in hood, helping to keep stray light off the glass.

Construction is robust and precise, with an all-metal barrel and a long-throw helicoid that allows careful, accurate focusing at close distances. The lens is equally capable as a sharp everyday standard lens.

It is ideal for flowers, insects, product photography, coins, stamps, documents, and film digitizing with a digital camera. Its sharpness also makes it a superb choice for landscapes and general photography.

With Ai coupling, the lens works with a wide range of Nikon film cameras, as well as Nikon digital SLRs that support manual-lens metering, such as the D7000-series, D300, D700, D750, and D800. It also adapts easily to Nikon Z cameras via the FTZ adapter and to other mirrorless systems with a Nikon F adapter.

Classic Micro-Nikkors remain highly sought after because they deliver outstanding sharpness and versatility at an accessible price, and they perform beautifully on modern high-resolution sensors.

If you want a sharp, reliable, and versatile macro lens with genuine Nikon heritage, the Micro-Nikkor-P.C Auto 55mm f/3.5 is an excellent choice.
