The Nikon NIKKOR 135mm f/3.5 Ai is a compact, lightweight manual-focus telephoto prime from Nikon's Ai lens lineup. It offers a classic portrait and short-telephoto focal length in a small, easy-to-carry design.

With its simple four-element optical construction, the lens produces sharp, contrasty images with clean, natural colors. Its straightforward design is known for good performance and pleasing rendering at practical apertures.

Build quality is typical of Nikon's Ai era: an all-metal barrel, smooth focusing ring, and a precise aperture ring. A built-in sliding lens hood helps reduce flare and is always ready to use.

As an Ai lens, it offers full-aperture metering on Nikon manual-focus SLRs such as the FM, FE, FM2, FE2 and F3, as well as on many Nikon DSLRs that accept Ai lenses.

The 135mm focal length is ideal for flattering head-and-shoulders portraits, candid street photography, stage shows, and isolating details in travel and landscape scenes.

On mirrorless cameras such as Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, Canon RF and Micro Four Thirds, the lens adapts easily via a Nikon F adapter. On APS-C bodies it provides an approximate 200mm equivalent field of view, ideal for distant subjects.

Today, the 135mm f/3.5 Ai remains valued as an affordable entry into genuine Nikon telephoto glass, offering compact size and reliable optical quality.

We recommend this lens to film shooters building a Nikon kit and to mirrorless users seeking a light, classic telephoto prime.
