The Nikon NIKKOR 200mm f/4 Non-Ai is a classic manual-focus telephoto prime from Nikon's pre-Ai era. It offers real telephoto reach in a compact, solidly built package, and was a popular choice for Nikon F and Nikkormat users.

Optically, it produces sharp, contrasty images with natural colors and smooth background blur. The long focal length isolates subjects effectively and compresses perspective for striking compositions.

Its all-metal barrel, smooth focus and precise aperture ring reflect Nikon's traditional craftsmanship. A built-in sliding hood helps reduce flare and protects the front element.

The 200mm focal length is excellent for wildlife, sports, distant landscapes, tight portraits and candid photography. It lets you capture subjects without disturbing them.

Its 52mm filter thread, shared with many Nikkor lenses of the era, makes it easy to use common filters across a Nikon kit.

As a non-Ai lens, it is best used with Nikon F, F2, Nikkormat FTn and similar bodies, or on cameras with a folding Ai tab. It adapts easily to Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, Canon RF and Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, where it becomes an even longer telephoto on crop sensors.

Today, vintage Nikkor telephotos like this are valued for their rugged build and pleasing rendering at a fraction of the cost of modern telephoto lenses.

We recommend it to vintage Nikon shooters and mirrorless users looking for an affordable, characterful long telephoto prime.
