Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Nikon F90X, known as the N90s in North America, is one of the most respected Nikon autofocus film SLRs of the 1990s. Introduced in 1994 as an upgrade to the F90, it was a semi-professional workhorse that many photographers used alongside the flagship F4 and F5. Here it is paired with the versatile AF Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6D zoom.

The F90X offers a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, flash sync at 1/250 sec, and approximately 4.3 frames per second continuous shooting. Its metering system includes 3D Matrix metering with D-type lenses, as well as center-weighted and spot metering, giving accurate exposures in almost any lighting condition.

Built to a high standard, the camera feels solid and purposeful in the hand. Controls are logically arranged, the viewfinder is bright and informative, and the body is powered by readily available AA batteries.

The included AF Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6D is a compact standard zoom that covers wide angle to short telephoto. As a D-type lens, it transmits distance information to the camera, enabling the F90X's full 3D Matrix metering and advanced flash capabilities, and it retains an aperture ring for use with older bodies.

This outfit is ideal for travel, events, portraits, street photography, and everyday shooting. It is a reliable combination for photographers who want modern automation and fast autofocus while enjoying the look of film.

The F90X is compatible with a wide range of Nikon F-mount lenses, including AF and AF-D Nikkors as well as many manual Ai and Ai-S lenses. G-type lenses without an aperture ring can be used in Program and Shutter-Priority modes. The 28-80mm lens also works on Nikon digital SLRs and can be adapted to mirrorless cameras.

Many photographers consider the F90X one of the best values in Nikon film photography today. It provides professional-level speed and metering in a body that is lighter and more affordable than Nikon's flagship models.

If you want a capable, fast, and dependable Nikon autofocus film camera with a convenient standard zoom, the Nikon F90X with AF Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6D is an excellent outfit to start shooting immediately.
