Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The FUJICA AZ-1 is a 35mm SLR from Fuji Photo Film, offered here with the FUJINON 55mm f/2.2 standard lens. Fuji's Fujica SLRs of the 1970s are known for quality engineering and excellent Fujinon optics, and the AZ-1 brought automatic exposure convenience to the M42 screw-mount format.

The camera offers aperture-priority automatic exposure: you set the aperture on the lens, and the camera selects the shutter speed. This allows quick, intuitive shooting while keeping control of depth of field. Manual exposure is also available for full creative control.

An electronically controlled focal-plane shutter with a top speed of 1/1000 sec handles bright conditions and fast-moving subjects. A self-timer is provided for group shots and self-portraits.

The included FUJINON 55mm f/2.2 is a compact standard lens that provides a natural perspective close to human vision. Fujinon lenses are well regarded for their sharpness and pleasing color, and this lens is an excellent everyday choice for street, travel, and portrait photography.

Because the AZ-1 uses the M42 screw mount, it can also accept a wide range of M42 lenses from many manufacturers. Fujinon lenses designed for Fujica's open-aperture system offer full-aperture metering, while standard M42 lenses can be used with stop-down metering.

The FUJINON 55mm f/2.2 can also be adapted to modern mirrorless cameras using an inexpensive M42 adapter, giving the kit additional versatility for digital shooters who enjoy vintage optics.

Fujica SLRs are less common than the big-name brands, which makes them an interesting choice for collectors and film photographers looking for something a little different with genuine quality.

If you are looking for a ready-to-shoot 35mm SLR kit with automatic exposure, a quality Fujinon lens, and access to the vast M42 lens ecosystem, the FUJICA AZ-1 with FUJINON 55mm f/2.2 is a rewarding choice.
