Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Nikon D40x, introduced in 2007, is a compact and lightweight digital SLR that combines a 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor with Nikon's famously easy handling. Small enough to carry everywhere, it remains a popular choice for photographers who want classic CCD image quality in a simple, approachable body.

Its 10.2-megapixel DX-format CCD sensor produces crisp detail with vivid, film-like colour that many photographers actively seek out today. Images straight from the camera have a pleasing, characterful look that is difficult to reproduce with modern sensors.

The large 2.5-inch LCD, clear on-screen guide and well-placed controls make the D40x very easy to use, while Programmed Auto, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and full Manual modes give you complete creative control as your skills develop. Continuous shooting at approx. 3 fps is useful for everyday action.

The D40x autofocuses with AF-S and AF-I Nikkor lenses, including the wide range of affordable AF-S DX zooms and primes, and other Nikon F-mount lenses can be used in manual focus. Its light weight makes it an excellent travel and everyday camera.

If you want a compact Nikon DSLR with distinctive CCD colour and straightforward operation, the D40x is an excellent and enjoyable choice for beginners and experienced photographers alike.
