The Nikon AF NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G is a lightweight and affordable telephoto zoom lens for the Nikon F mount. It provides a long focal range in an easy-to-carry design, making it a popular choice for photographers adding telephoto reach to their kit.

The 70-300mm range covers portraits at the short end and distant subjects like wildlife, sports, and airshows at the long end. On DX-format cameras, the field of view becomes approximately 105-450mm, offering even greater reach.

At around 425 g, the lens is light enough to carry all day, and its 62 mm filter thread accepts common filters. Nine aperture blades help produce smooth, pleasing background blur.

As a G-type lens, it has no aperture ring; aperture is controlled from the camera body. It transmits distance information to compatible cameras for accurate 3D Matrix Metering and flash exposure.

Autofocus is driven by the camera body's screw-drive motor, so it works on Nikon AF film SLRs and on DSLRs with a built-in AF motor, such as the D7000 series, D300 series, and full-frame models. On bodies without an AF motor, it can be used with manual focus.

On modern Nikon AF film cameras such as the F80/N80, F100, and F65/N65, this lens makes a lightweight and capable telephoto option for film photography.

Its combination of reach, low weight, and value makes it a practical lens for beginners, travelers, and anyone who wants telephoto capability without the size and cost of professional lenses.

If you are looking for an affordable and lightweight telephoto zoom for your Nikon AF camera, the AF NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G is a sensible and rewarding choice.
