The Nikon EL2, the successor to the Nikomat/Nikkormat EL and ELW, is a robust 35mm SLR introduced in 1977. It was the final evolution of Nikon's Nikomat/Nikkormat EL line and one of the first Nikon cameras designed for the Ai lens system, combining solid construction with aperture-priority automatic exposure.

If the battery is depleted, the mechanical M90 setting still allows shooting at 1/90 sec, so the camera remains usable in a pinch.
