The TAMRON AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro (Model A17) is a highly popular telephoto zoom lens that combines long reach with a genuine 1:2 macro capability. It has long been a favorite among photographers seeking an affordable and versatile telephoto lens.

The 70-300mm range is ideal for wildlife, sports, airshows, portraits, and travel details. On a DX-format Nikon, it becomes an approximately 105-450mm equivalent, giving serious reach for distant subjects.

A standout feature is the macro mode. Switching to macro in the 180-300mm range allows focusing down to 0.95 m and a maximum magnification of 1:2 at 300mm. This makes the lens a great tool for photographing flowers, butterflies, and insects from a comfortable distance.

Tamron's LD (Low Dispersion) glass element helps control chromatic aberrations, and the 'Di' designation means the lens was designed for both film and digital cameras. Nine aperture blades contribute to soft, attractive bokeh.

The lens is relatively light for its range, at around 435 g, and uses a 62 mm filter thread. It is easy to carry on hikes and trips, and pairs well with both film and digital Nikon bodies.

This version is made for the Nikon F mount. Autofocus behavior depends on the specific version and camera body, and the lens can be adapted to mirrorless cameras with an F-mount adapter.

For many photographers, this lens is the most cost-effective way to add both telephoto reach and close-up capability to their kit in a single package.

If you want a lightweight and economical telephoto zoom that doubles as a macro lens for your Nikon camera, the TAMRON AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro is a smart and versatile choice.
