Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Nikon NIKKOR-H Auto 50mm f/2 is a classic standard prime from Nikon's early F-mount era. It was a common standard lens for the Nikon F and Nikkormat cameras and remains a favorite among vintage Nikon enthusiasts.

Its six-element optical design delivers crisp, well-contrasted images with a gentle vintage character. Wide open, the lens renders subjects with a soft, natural glow, while stopping down brings excellent sharpness across the frame.

The lens is built entirely of metal with smooth focusing and a precise aperture ring. The scalloped focusing grip, characteristic of early Nikkors, gives it a distinctive and attractive appearance.

The "H" designation refers to its six-element construction in Nikon's classic naming system. The f/2 aperture provides a bright viewfinder and allows handheld shooting in modest light.

This lens is well suited to street photography, portraits, travel and everyday documentary work. The natural 50mm perspective is versatile and encourages thoughtful composition.

As a non-Ai lens, it is best used on Nikon F, F2, Nikkormat FTn and similar bodies, or on cameras with a folding Ai tab. It adapts easily to Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, Canon RF and Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras, where it makes a charming vintage lens.

Today the NIKKOR-H 50mm f/2 is valued for its solid build, honest rendering and its historical connection to Nikon's legendary early SLR system.

We recommend this lens to vintage Nikon collectors, film shooters and mirrorless users looking for an authentic, characterful standard lens.
