The Olympus G.Zuiko Auto-W 28mm f/3.5 is a classic manual-focus wide-angle lens designed for the renowned Olympus OM system. True to the OM philosophy of compact, lightweight design, it packs a quality 28mm optical formula into a remarkably small and elegant metal body.

The 'G' prefix follows Olympus's letter code for a 7-element optical design. The lens produces crisp, clean images with natural colour and good contrast, and stopping down yields excellent detail across the frame for landscapes, architecture and travel scenes.

One of the lens's practical strengths is its close focusing distance of 0.3 m, which allows dramatic wide-angle close-ups with an emphasised foreground. This adds creative possibilities beyond typical landscape use.

In keeping with OM design, the aperture ring is located at the front of the barrel, close to the focusing ring, allowing quick adjustments without changing your grip. The small 49mm filter size keeps filters compact and affordable.

The 28mm focal length is an excellent all-round wide-angle, broad enough for landscapes and interiors while natural enough for street and documentary photography. Its compact size makes it ideal for a lightweight travel kit.

On film, the lens is a natural match for Olympus OM-series cameras such as the OM-1, OM-2, OM-3, OM-4 and OM-10. It also adapts very easily to modern mirrorless cameras including Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z and Micro Four Thirds using an OM adapter, and can be used on Canon EOS DSLRs with an OM-EF adapter.

Olympus Zuiko lenses are respected for their quality, compactness and smooth handling, and this 28mm remains one of the most practical and affordable wide-angles in the OM lineup.

If you are looking for a small, sharp and well-built vintage wide-angle lens, the Olympus G.Zuiko Auto-W 28mm f/3.5 is an excellent choice for OM film cameras and adapted mirrorless shooting.
