Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Canon AT-1 is a 35mm SLR from Canon's popular A-series, offered here with the FD 50mm f/1.8 standard lens. Built on the same platform as the famous AE-1, the AT-1 replaces automatic exposure with manual match-needle metering, making it a superb camera for learning and enjoying fully manual photography.

Exposure is set by aligning a needle in the viewfinder, a simple and intuitive system that encourages you to understand how aperture and shutter speed work together. The electronically controlled shutter covers 2 sec to 1/1000 sec plus Bulb.

Because it shares its design with the AE-1, the AT-1 enjoys the same solid construction, comfortable handling, and bright viewfinder. Many accessories from the A-series system, such as motor winders and flashes, are compatible.

The included Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 is a sharp, compact standard lens that gives a natural perspective close to human vision. With 6 elements in 4 groups and a fast f/1.8 aperture, it is excellent for street, portraits, travel, and low-light shooting.

The Canon FD mount offers access to a large range of high-quality manual-focus lenses, from wide-angles to telephotos, many of which are very affordable today. It is easy to expand this kit as your photography grows.

The FD 50mm f/1.8 can also be adapted to mirrorless cameras such as Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Micro Four Thirds using a simple FD adapter, giving it a second life on digital cameras.

The AT-1 is less common than the AE-1, which makes it an interesting alternative for collectors and photographers who prefer manual control. It offers the best of the Canon A-series in a purist package.

If you want a reliable, ready-to-shoot Canon film kit that puts you fully in control of exposure, the Canon AT-1 with FD 50mm f/1.8 is an outstanding choice for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
