The Pentax SMC TAKUMAR 55mm f/1.8 is a classic M42 screw-mount standard prime from Asahi Optical's celebrated Takumar line. Takumar lenses are renowned for their outstanding build quality and beautiful rendering, and this 55mm is one of the most popular of them.

The SMC designation refers to Pentax's pioneering Super-Multi-Coating, which reduces flare and ghosting and gives rich, vivid colors. Optically, the lens is sharp with smooth, attractive bokeh and a gentle, pleasing transition from focus to background.

Takumar lenses are famous for their buttery-smooth focusing and solid all-metal construction. Turning the focus ring of this lens is a tactile pleasure that modern lenses rarely match.

The SMC Takumar has a meter-coupling tab that enables open-aperture metering on the Spotmatic F and ES series, while the Auto/Manual switch allows stop-down metering on other M42 cameras and convenient manual aperture control on adapters.

This is a superb everyday lens for portraits, street photography, travel and still life. The slightly longer-than-normal 55mm focal length gives a natural yet subtly flattering perspective.

The M42 mount is one of the easiest to adapt. With an inexpensive adapter, the lens works beautifully on Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Micro Four Thirds and Pentax K-mount cameras.

Today, the SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8 is valued as one of the best combinations of character, build quality and affordability in vintage lenses.

We highly recommend this lens to film photographers and digital shooters alike who want a classic, beautifully made standard lens with timeless rendering.
