Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Pentax Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 28mm f/3.5 is a classic M42 screw-mount wide-angle prime from Asahi Optical's highly regarded Takumar series. It brings the renowned Takumar craftsmanship to a versatile wide-angle focal length.

The Super-Multi-Coating was among the first multi-coatings applied to consumer lenses, helping to reduce flare and ghosting and to deliver rich, saturated colors. Images are crisp with good contrast and pleasing vintage character.

Like all Takumars, the lens is built with an all-metal barrel and an exceptionally smooth focusing action. It is compact and well balanced, ideal for carrying all day.

The Auto/Manual switch allows automatic diaphragm use on M42 cameras and manual stop-down operation on adapters, while the Super-Multi-Coated version supports open-aperture metering on Spotmatic F and ES bodies.

The 28mm focal length is perfect for landscapes, architecture, interiors, street photography and environmental portraits, offering a wide yet natural perspective.

The M42 mount adapts easily to Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Micro Four Thirds and Pentax K-mount cameras. On APS-C sensors, it becomes a roughly 42mm-equivalent standard lens.

Today, Super-Multi-Coated Takumars are highly sought after for their combination of build quality, rendering and value, and this 28mm is a practical member of the family.

We recommend this lens to M42 film shooters and to digital photographers seeking a compact, beautifully made vintage wide-angle.
