The Yashica Auto Yashinon 5cm f/2 is a vintage M42 screw-mount standard lens from Yashica's early SLR era, a time when focal lengths were still marked in centimeters. It reflects the craftsmanship of Japanese optics in the 1960s and has become a popular choice among collectors and photographers who enjoy classic lens character.

Optically, the lens delivers the soft, slightly glowing rendering wide open that many photographers love in vintage glass, while stopping down brings out clean detail and good contrast. Out-of-focus areas are smooth and natural, giving images a distinctive old-school feel that is hard to replicate with modern lenses.

The lens is built with an all-metal barrel and the precise, satisfying mechanics typical of its time. Focusing is smooth, and the aperture ring is easy to operate by touch. The classic styling also looks wonderful on both vintage SLRs and modern mirrorless bodies.

As an automatic-diaphragm M42 lens, it stays open for bright, easy focusing and stops down when the camera's pin is pressed at the moment of exposure, making it straightforward to use on compatible screw-mount SLRs.

The 50mm focal length is a natural, versatile view for street photography, travel, documentary work, and everyday snapshots. On APS-C or Micro Four Thirds cameras, it becomes a short telephoto ideal for portraits and detail shots.

M42 lenses are among the easiest vintage lenses to adapt. With a simple adapter, this lens can be mounted on Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Micro Four Thirds, and other mirrorless systems. Using an adapter that depresses the aperture pin allows direct control of the aperture with the lens's ring.

Early Yashinon lenses are valued for their character, solid construction, and historical interest. They offer a genuinely different look from modern optics, which is why they are often sought after for both stills and video.

If you want a classic 50mm lens with real vintage charm and Japanese craftsmanship, the Yashica Auto Yashinon 5cm f/2 is a rewarding lens to use and a handsome piece to own.
