The Nikon NIKKOR-S Auto 55mm f/1.2 is a legendary ultra-fast standard lens from Nikon’s classic manual-focus era, highly sought after by photographers and collectors alike.

With its exceptionally bright f/1.2 maximum aperture, this lens excels in low-light photography and delivers a beautifully shallow depth of field. The rendering is characterized by soft, smooth background blur and a distinctive vintage look, especially when shot wide open—qualities that modern lenses often cannot replicate.

Stopped down, the lens becomes noticeably sharper, offering a pleasing balance between classic character and practical usability. Color reproduction is warm and natural, and highlights transition smoothly, making it an excellent choice for artistic portraits, atmospheric street photography, and creative still life work.

The solid all-metal construction and precise manual focus mechanism reflect Nikon’s craftsmanship of the era, providing a highly tactile and satisfying shooting experience. Today, this lens is also very popular for use on modern mirrorless cameras via adapters, where its unique optical character truly shines.

For photographers looking to experience one of Nikon’s fastest and most iconic vintage lenses, or for collectors seeking a rare and historically significant NIKKOR, the 55mm f/1.2 Non-Ai remains an exceptional and inspiring choice.
