Professional Camera Store's Recommendation

The Sony Alpha A200 with the DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens is a complete, ready-to-shoot digital SLR kit built on the heritage of Minolta's camera engineering. Introduced in 2008, the A200 combines a 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor with in-body Super SteadyShot stabilization, making it an accessible and versatile entry into the Sony Alpha system.

The 10.2-megapixel APS-C CCD sensor produces vivid, film-like colours and crisp detail, a look that many photographers actively seek out today. Sony's BIONZ processor handles noise reduction and image processing, delivering pleasing JPEGs as well as RAW files for those who like to edit.

One of the A200's standout features is Super SteadyShot, a sensor-shift stabilization system built into the camera body. This means every lens you mount, including older Minolta AF lenses and the included 18-70mm zoom, benefits from image stabilization, helping you achieve sharper handheld shots in lower light.

The included DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens covers a useful range from wide-angle to short telephoto, equivalent to roughly 27–105mm in 35mm terms. It is light and compact, focuses down to 0.38 m for close-up details, and is an ideal everyday lens for landscapes, travel, group photos and portraits.

The A200 has a comfortable grip, a clear 2.7-inch LCD and a 9-point autofocus system with a cross-type center sensor. Controls are straightforward, and the camera offers full manual exposure control along with automatic and scene modes for easy everyday use.

Because it uses the Sony A-mount, the A200 is compatible with a vast selection of Minolta Maxxum/Dynax AF lenses as well as Sony and third-party A-mount optics. This makes it an affordable gateway to classic Minolta lenses, many of which are highly regarded for their rendering and build.

This kit is a great choice for beginners, travellers and photographers interested in CCD image quality. It is also a practical way to enjoy Minolta AF lenses with modern digital convenience and in-body stabilization.

If you are looking for a complete, easy-to-use DSLR outfit with characterful CCD images and built-in stabilization, the Sony Alpha A200 with the DT 18-70mm lens is an excellent all-in-one package for everyday photography.
